: I don't have an ice cream maker like most recipes call for, but I do have a heavy duty Kitchen-Aid stand up mixer. Is there a way I can make some with the mixer?

: Thanks

Yes but don't do it often, theres no cooling fan in the mixer.
Cool the base down before starting to mix, double bowl it with ice and rock salt in the jacket bowl. You'll need a 5lb bag of ice, change everything when the mix gets down around 32F.
empty the ice out and refill, you'll also need 3 boxes of salt at least.
Not worth it for the little bit of ice cream you'll get, also the paddle will over inflate it by the time its done.

Sorbet you can make with just a stainless tray in the freezer, stir it often as it starts to set, it'll turn into slush then sorbet. More like granite'.
