If it doesn't hold up can't you reopen again?
I know exactly what you mean about retail , I would like to shoot some of my customers/idiots.
What I did was cut my hours, expand more into wholesale supplying (croissant) and start catering. I now close at noon daily and its working, just work hard and it will come.
It made me nervous too but its OK to make changes.
