: Hi,
: I'm wanting to start my own catering business. I have worked as a cook in several rest. and am a excellant cook and baker. Could any of you out there give me any advice. I am still ignorant to the legal and business side of things. I also would love to know of any books or other source of info. that would helpme stay up to date on styles and proper techniques. I have a commercial kitchen to work out of. I could use advise on proper pricing also. If anyone out there has any advice please take the time to e-mail me at freckles@ls.net. Thanks.

Deborah;

I suggest working for a professional caterer, for at least
three years. You need lots of experience and training; in food
cost, labor cost, business management, taxes,banquets for 100+
people, and culinary arts!! To many people want to cater, but
only a FEW cater well. The rest fail and lose all their money.

Just because a person cooks well, does not make a person a caterer.

Customers want professionals, not a bunch of novices who want
a fast buck.......

Good luck with your future;

Baumann
