: : I am looking for some high quality recipe/costing/menu writing software . Most of what I have found has limited ingredient lists and no costing functions, mostly for the housewife.
: The really pro ones are linked to inventory systems.
: Go to the Web Resources, Software area at EOL, you'll find links to all sorts of commercial foodservice software companies.
: Check Culinary Software Services and the Escoffier Software folks(no relation to the EOL site). There DOS based(last I looked) but have all the functionality you could want, at a price.

I'd love to talk to others about this situation. I've been doing some fairly extensive
research about catering software and have some definite opinions about what's out there
(and, more appropriately, what's not!). I'm coming at it from the computer technical
side, not the caterer side (I'm the computer consultant for a catering firm) and
I'm just so frustrated at what's currently available. None of it seems flexible enough
and seems to pigeon-hole the caterer into a single method of operation. I'd love to
get other's opinions of this and talk with people who have used some of the software
out there. I'd also like to discover if my catering company is really doing business
as totally different from others as these software folks would like me to believe.
Thanks for your input! If you want to ask about a specific program, I'll see what
information I can give you.
