: : Are there any gay or lesbian chefs who would like to form an organization -informal ? I know there are many of us "out" there, but there doesn't seem to be any kind of forum open to us. I would be interested in hearing from you. We do have to deal with issues specific to us as Gays or Lesbians
: ADDENDUM:
: I have received several replies to my post above asking for eithe clarification or a "defense" of my original post. Apparently, I made a poor choice of words. My intent was not to open a "politcal" forum. I was merely seeking other Gay/Lesbian chefs with the sole purpose of being "social". There are certain "issues" Gay/Lesbian Chefs and cooks have to deal with such as, homophobia in the workplace and job discrimination ( although this is of course not limited to only Gay and Lesbian Chefs.) Admittedly, I realize now I should have chosen my words more carefully and thoughtfully. I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Having worked in the food biz all my life I'd have to say its true, I never worked with gays in the kitchen as there weren't any but all the best waiters were.
Most cooks were neanderthal in their treatment, seems a bit insecure....and dumb because they were the best people to have out front and getting them upset hurts everyone.

btw, when I first arrived in the states I met an incredibly flamboyant gay chef in Boston, an English guy named Jeff Davis. He was talented beyond expectation, a pastry chef's pastry chef.
Unfortunately aids got him decades before they knew what the disease was.
