I don't think they get paid, its publicity and thats what drives the ignorant public like lemmings from todays fad to tomorrows trends.
The guy I trained with did TV for a while till we got sick of the pukes who worked in the studios, all ego no heart.
Maybe they get paid now, for what I don't know.
