Frozen ones work as well and are available year round. Fresh ones are out of season.
But why mess up good beer? Ever heard of the "reinlichkeits gebot" the code of ethics for German brewers? I would make some perfect weissbier or hefeweizen and flavor it upon the consumption with syrup, even cranberry. Anyway, good luck. Perfect weather for good weissbier.
