First off, my moniker can only be eight characters long,
so I didn't forget the "f".
Here is the deal:
I picked up a earthenware pot at a yard sale. Has a lid,
two handles and looks like a two gallon cookie jar. Is
handcrafted and seems to be sandstone but quite light in
weight.
What I can't figure out is the base. There is a "funnel"
looking apendage coming up from the bottom. It is open
at the top and the base (three inches tall) as if to allow
steam to escape or dry heat to enter.
To make it more understandable, if you were to fill the
pot with water, it would fill up to three inches and the
rest would escape through this "funnel".
What is this thing that takes space on my kitchen counter?
