The first step is to find your local Small Business Administration Office. Where I am in Ohio, they provide free one on one sessions to help get you started. This was invaluable for me. The second thing I did was find others in the specific area you are interested in and call them. Most professionals are happy and eager to share tips with you because that is how they were able to get started. Take everything step by step because otherwise everything will become very overwhelming.
