This is important, to my way of thinking...imagine all the people
in the world to which a meal is, well, survival.
And, imagine all to whom consider tortillas, or other simple-based
ingredients to be a staple for their livelihood--there is or was
a big to-do about this re tortillas in Mexico (? not sure) just
recently. I think "they" finally settled on no more than 35 cents
per kilo; hello? 2+ lbs of tortillas for 35 cents? And to think
that this might be a hardship for some... sigh
And the tortilla can be "dressed up" so simply! A bit of butter,
or cheese, or minced veggies, or...
How fortunate we are to be in touch with others who love food
with such passion, with the resources to be "in touch" online,
have the options to try (buy) new foods, and even throw some of
it away, or, as happens to me too often, let it turn blue,
forcing me to clean the fridge drawer...I am ashamed
I hope 1999 will be a time when I will waste less, and share more.
Just hoping it will happen on a larger scale than at my home...
