: : I taught @ the Art Inst in Atlanta a very good school. I went to the CIA, if i had to do it all over again I would get a degree in computer science. Kitchens are hot the hours suck and conditions are pretty poor. Think hard, think twice. most of the people I graduated with are no longer in the profession.

: If you can't take the heat,get of the kitchen.Professional chefs don't
: devaluate our profession.I've been a professional chef for many years
: now.The hours and employement is ONES CHOICE.If a person knows how
: to delegate and operate a restaurant, you're half way there.Working
: in food service,a person needs passon for creating food, not money.
: Money, will come when a person develop the skills to make a profit.

: Being a professional chef takes hard work, education, perceptiveness,

I appreciate all your input, whether god, bad or ugly. I think its
important to hear that the work conditions may suck, the pay may suck
and the opportunities for advancement, especially for women, are not
always the best. I also appreciate the fact you defend your profession,
but come on, its not always wine and roses is it??? A lot of people
have some very strong opinions about the CIA, both good and bad, and
I enjoy hearing all the viewpoints. As I am considering a career change,
I would be pretty suspicious if someone came to me and said this would be
a cakewalk. BTW, Mark, I will do anything not to have a desk job any longer.
I love computers, love marketing and sales, but I want to know at the end of
the day I ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING, not just typed on a keyboard and sold some
software. I want to create, to have an outlet for my creative side, to apply my
organizational and people skills in an environment that promotes creativity. Oh
yeah, the hours in my job suck, the people suck, and I am beginning to feel like
all the accountants I work with (and many others) are Satan's personal
representatives on Earth....oh yeah and I also LOVE FOOD, LOVE COOKING and want out.....
If being a chef begins to suck theres always
significant amounts plastic surgery and table dancing in my future! (just joking)
Thanks again for all your input everyone, I think I may actually do this!
