Here is what I do.

for sauce try reducing the cooking broth.
use no salt in prep.
season with bay leaf, thyme,pepper corns or whatever float your boat. Ginger has a nice effect.
lastly, thicken with corn starch.

salt can be a problem with some brands soaking in fresh water for a hour or two can aleviate somwhat...

definately use potatoes. they soak salt and taste great like this. of course so do other root veg.
