: So exactly who -- or what -- is Foster? (Found the above conversation in the Caterer's forum.)
Foster is a gentle, sweet, cuddly 3-year old shepherd-chow mix. Since opening Foster's, we have added another canine member to the family, Chloe, now 8 months old, an akita-chow mix. She doesn't deserve to have anything named after her, but she is a beautiful girl.
What's your least busy night of the week?
Currently Thursday, but it fluctuates.
And does the wine shop carry Chateau Ste. Michelle or will I have to tote it across state lines? (Shhh!) This could be a seriously cool meal.
Don't know if Riverside Liquors carries Chateau Ste. Michelle... What varietal were you looking for? FYI, Jim (husband) and I brought home two bottles of their Dry Riesling and two whole salmon in our carry-on luggage last time we went to Seattle. We got some pretty interesting looks when they ran our bags through the x-ray machine at security.
: Just remember, folks, the best dinner that I've ever had in the States -- bar none to date -- was served at Chez Astrid's in Tularosa, New Mexico. Astrid is a middle-aged Frenchwoman who set up a tiny restaurant in the Jornado de Muerto, real Billy the Kid country, housed in an old filling station on the edge of town. Still looks likes a filling station, too, with ambiance straight out of Rod Serling's Twilight Zone. Four tables, maybe five, so reservations are essential. But you can't beat her prices and, damn, that woman can cook! I used to try to talk her into writing a book, just to help drum up business, as if she had room for any more customers. She would either laugh at me or look bemused: "But all I do is simple farmhouse cooking. You should talk to that woman with the fancy restaurant near the racetrack up in Ruidoso -- she's a real artiste!" (Not in my book, Astrid.) I still miss her ...
That sounds great! My waiter (and I have only one...) keeps telling me about some little place (in Georgia, maybe?) he went with his wife that was in a woman's home on
