Sugarpaste is the what we call Rolled fondant in America. I prefer Renshaw's Regalise to all other commercial brands (maybe even to homemade). If you want to try your hand at making it, give this recipe a shot.2T glucose or corn syrup, 1 egg white, 1.5-2# 10x sugar, 1T lemon juice and if you can get it 1/2T glycerine (actually some drug stores sell it). I nuke everything but half the sugar for 1 minute. Knead in more 10x until no longer sticky. Wrap tight and use the next day.
If you are interested in making those wonderful English flowers, gumpaste is your best bet.1# 10x, 1T gum tragacanth, 5tsp water, 2 tsp gelatin, 2 tsp glucose, 4 tsp veg. shortening and 1 egg white. Dissolve gelatine in water then mix w/ rest of ingredients. Wrap this very tightly and it must be left to rest 24 hours. Only work w/ tiny pieces at a time. This is can be rolled very thin to create realistic flowers.
Good luck and lots of patience to you!
